HBO has revealed the title for the Game of ThronesSeason 7 finale,Movies as well as confirming the long-simmering rumors that the installment will be the show's longest episode yet, clocking in at 79 minutes, 43 seconds.
That runtime easily beats the super-sized length of episode 6, "Beyond the Wall," which was 70 minutes. Before that, the record was held by the Season 6 finale, "The Winds of Winter," which topped 68 minutes.
SEE ALSO: George R. R. Martin was dropping clues about the 'Game of Thrones' ending back in Season 1The Season 7 finale is titled "The Dragon and the Wolf," which presents a lot of intriguing possibilities about Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow, who grew closer than ever in the penultimate episode of the season.
Episode 6 saw Jon finally pledging his allegiance to Dany (aka "my queen") after the Mother of Dragons lost one of her children during a mission to rescue Jon and his Suicide Squad of wight-hunters from the Night King and his army.
The teaser trailer for "The Dragon and the Wolf" previews the long-awaited meeting between Team Dany and Team Cersei, with just about all your favorite characters on hand for the showdown, but it's interesting to note that "The Lion" doesn't feature in the finale's title. (Sorry, Cersei; there's a reason why George R. R. Martin titled his book series A Song of Ice and Fire.)
Game of Thronesfans know that episode titles often contain double-meanings, alluding to events that aren't teased by the show's promotional materials -- so it's possible that the title could also apply to Jon Snow's parents, Rhaegar Targaryen and Lyanna Stark -- the OG dragon/wolf pairing.
SEE ALSO: Gilly's nighttime reading on 'Game of Thrones' may have just changed everythingJon's brothercousin Bran discovered the truth about the King in the North's secret parentage at the end of last season, but so far, he's kept it to himself -- could that change in the Season 7 finale? It's about time someoneheard about it. Or, better yet, if the show decides to end another finale with a flashback, perhaps we might even seethe much-discussed couple in the flesh?
Either of those options are way better than the third possibility -- that since the Night King just scored a dragon, he's got his icy blue sights set on a direwolf next. (Is that why we haven't seen Ghost in a while?!)
We'll find out when the Game of ThronesSeason 7 finale airs Sunday, Aug. 27 at 9 p.m. on HBO.
