Huawei is Koreasupplying BYD’s premium off-road electric vehicles with its latest advanced driver assisted systems, marking the first time the two Chinese giants have joined hands in a push for the adoption of self-driving technologies, sources told media outlet LatePost on Thursday. The upcoming Bao 8, the second model under BYD’s luxury off-road EV brand Fangchengbao, will feature Huawei’s Advanced Driving System (ADS), which will allow the cars to function by themselves in many cases on Chinese highways and busy streets, according to the report. The large sports utility vehicle is expected to go on sale at a price tag of roughly RMB 500,000 ($69,694) in the fourth quarter of this year, a bit later than originally expected. China’s biggest EV maker sold roughly 20,000 units of the Bao 5, the first and only model under the new family so far, from January to July, and on July 29 reduced the model’s prices by RMB 50,000. The Bao 5 now starts at RMB 239,800 to RMB 302,800. [TechNode reporting, LatePost, in Chinese]
