A one-of-a-kind hand drawn map of Disneyland, done by Walt Disney himself, sold for $708,000 at an auction at Van Eaton Galleries in Los Angeles over the weekend, making it the most expensive Disneyland map ever sold.

The famous theme park first opened its doors in July of 1955.
The map wasn't the only Disney collectible auctioned off this weekend. It was the highlight in a series of over 1,000 Disney artifacts from 1953 to the present day, including "original props, wardrobe, riding vehicles, and souvenirs," according to Van Eaton's website.

Perhaps even more surprising is the fact that the anonymous collector who purchased the map might have gotten a pretty sweet deal. Auctioneers were reportedly hoping the map would fetch around $900,000.
Almost three quarters of a million dollars might seem like a lot of money to spend on a map, but to one Disney fanatic it was a small price to pay for a piece of history. We can only imagine it will be mounted above a mantle lined with Mickey ears.
