The film had additionally been nominated for nine other awards, including Best Original Screenplay, Best Lead Actress, Best Supporting Actress, and Best Supporting Actor. It was the most-nominated picture of the 2018 Oscars race.

The Shape of Waterhad been considered one of the frontrunner throughout much of the 2018 race – though fellow Best Picture nominees Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouriand Get Outalso looked like strong contenders at various points.
For what it's worth, The Shape of Water was also Mashable's pick for the No. 1 movie of 2017.
