If you want to play Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered005 Archives you're going to need the original disc for Infinite Warfare in your drive. Unless you buy the game as a download, of course, in which case no discs required.
It's been common knowledge for some time now that the remastered Modern Warfareis a bonus included with certain editions of Infinite Warfare. Get a Legacy, Legacy Pro or Digital Deluxe edition of the new game and you can download the spruced up 2007 game for free.
SEE ALSO: 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered' trailer heads back to familiar battlegroundsThe new detail about needing an Infinite disc in the drive to run Modernisn't really a surprise. It's stated clearly on the remastered game's website.
At launch, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered will contain only 10 MP maps from the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare game. Additional MP maps will be made available by 12/31/2016. Modern Warfare Remastered is a full game download (game disc must be inserted to play Modern Warfare Remastered).
You might be wondering: why would Activision require the disc?
Blame the used games market. Imagine someone buys Infinite Warfarespecifically for Modern Warfare Remastered. They have no interest in the new game, they just want to play the old one again.
If the disc weren't required to run Modern Warfare, you could simply buy Infinite, redeem your Remasteredcode and sell the new game back to your store of choice at top-dollar. That doesn't help Activision, which exist to publish and sellvideo games.
If you're asking why Activision wouldn't just sell Remasteredas a standalone product, the answer should now be obvious: more demand for Modern Warfareequals more sales for Infinite Warfare.
There is, fortunately, a workaround for that disc requirement: go digital. If you don't want to worry about keeping a disc in your drive, buy Infinite Warfareas a redeemable code from your online store of choice.
You obviously then won't be able to sell Infinite Warfare, but that's the whole point. This is the only approach that lets Activision protect its interests while also minimizing the inconvenience on end users like you.
Call of Duty: Infinite Warfareand Modern Warfare Remasteredwill both be released on Nov. 4. PlayStation 4 users that pre-order the Legacy, Legacy Pro or Digital Deluxe edition can also take advantage of early access -- starting Oct. 5 -- to Modern Warfare Remastered's campaign mode.
The early access works whether you've pre-ordered via PlayStation Network or in a store. Refer to Activision's FAQ for more details on how all of that works.
